Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Writer Teases ‘New Twists on Classic Characters’

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man head writer Jeff Trammell recently delved into its wide range of characters. This comes after Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man executive producer Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt touched upon new story details for it.
Trammell brought this subject up in an interview with the Walt Disney Company, professing, “We have the privilege of following the movies and shows, so we pay homage to them as well as the comics. We build on things we’ve seen before but present them in new ways. We use those expectations to our advantage and turn things away from where you might expect. I’m excited for people to see new twists on classic characters, and I’m also excited to introduce characters that aren’t normally featured in Spider-Man stories.”

Trammell went on to further note that one is “going to see some familiar faces,” going to jokingly avowing that if one is “a fan of Chameleon, [they’re] going to see a few of his faces.” He concluded, “You’re also going to see Scorpion, as well as a few characters who may seem new, like Speed Demon or Butane. We have a huge rogues gallery to play with, and so we’re looking forward to putting some of them in the forefront.“

More recently, Trammell delved into Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man taking place in a sister timeline, conveying that taking place in a “sister timeline one universe over” allows the production team to quite a bit more freedom and helps them tell stories that “don’t necessarily have to go down a familiar route.” Tying into this, Marvel Studios’ Head of Animation Brad Winderbaum revealed why the Disney+ show is no longer MCU canon in December.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Is Praised as “Amazing”
Besides these bits of news, Winderbaum touched upon Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in May, remarking that it’s “amazing, to say the least,” and that he thinks it’s going to surprise people, adding, “It is very much like a cut from that Steve Ditko era of the comics. It’s Peter Parker back in high school just trying to make it work, take care of his aunt, completely broke, and having to be a superhero.” Prior to this, Winderbaum sang the praises of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and its production team in March.
